What is orthodontics?

Braces use brackets and wires to precisely move teeth and handle complex cases including significant bite corrections. Invisalign uses a series of clear, removable aligners and is popular with teens and adults who want a discreet option. Dr. Kulkarni will recommend the best fit based on your goals, lifestyle, and clinical needs.
What orthodontic procedures do you offer?
We provide Invisalign and Invisalign Teen clear aligners, traditional and ceramic braces, early (Phase I) interceptive treatment for children, palatal expanders, retainers, and post-treatment monitoring. Every plan starts with a consultation and 3D digital scan.
Why is orthodontic treatment important?
Beyond a straighter smile, orthodontic care improves chewing, speech, and jaw comfort, and makes teeth easier to clean — which lowers the risk of cavities and gum disease over time.
When should my child first see an orthodontist?
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends an initial evaluation by age 7. Most children don't need treatment that early, but a check-up lets us catch growth issues while they're easiest to guide.
How long does orthodontic treatment take?
Most comprehensive treatments run 12–24 months, depending on complexity. Simpler cosmetic alignment can finish in as little as 6 months. You'll get a clear timeline at your consultation.
Am I too old for braces or Invisalign?
No. Roughly one in four orthodontic patients today is an adult. Healthy teeth can be moved at any age, and modern options like Invisalign and ceramic braces make adult treatment discreet and comfortable.
Are there foods I can't eat with braces?
With traditional braces, avoid hard, sticky, or chewy foods that can break brackets — including popcorn, hard candy, gum, ice, and whole apples. Invisalign aligners are removable, so there are no food restrictions.
What should I do in an orthodontic emergency?
For a loose bracket, broken wire, or lost aligner, call our office right away and we'll schedule you as soon as possible. In the meantime, orthodontic wax can protect the inside of your cheeks from any sharp edges.
How often will I have appointments?
Most patients are seen every 6–10 weeks. Invisalign check-ins are typically shorter and less frequent than traditional braces adjustments.
